yesterday, my dad, my sister and i went to gateway to see date night starring tina fey and steve carell. actually, that's a lie. we left the house without knowing where we were headed or what we would do once we got there. i guess indecision runs in the family. that and a lack of communication.
anyway, we got there just in time. and believe me, that rarely happens (to me, anyway). we got there at around 3:45 PM and the movie starts at 3:50. it really was a miracle because it was a saturday and there wasn't an impossibly long line for tickets. we were at the gateway cineplex on a saturday and there wasn't a line. who woulda thunk it? my sister got snacks (no line either) but she sure took her time salting her popcorn. we enter the movie theater and we arrived just when the last trailer before the movie ends. we settle into our seats and enjoy the opening credits. now that's what i call a photo finish.
the movie was really funny. like laugh-out-loud funny. there were also a lot of "WTF?" moments so that made it fun. i laughed the hardest during their stripper dance. it was all kinds of wrong but oh so funny. i loved that amazon's kindle was on the movie. yay for product placement! speaking of the scene with the kindle, the car chase was extremely funny. :))
after the movie, we browsed some of the stores in gateway, not really looking for anything in particular. then we ate at burgoo for dinner and headed home. the day started with lots of tension but we ended up having a good time. too bad my mom couldn't come with. i hope she feels and gets better.
in other news, i've finished The Titan's Curse, the third book in the percy jackson series and i must say, it is very funny. i've been spamming quotes from the book on my tumblr all night. now that i think about it, sea of monsters was not as good as the first and this third one. maybe because the gods are really the source of most of the comedy in the series. anyway, i'm excited to read the fourth, The Battle of the Labyrinth. wonder what kind of trouble nico di angelo will cause. oooooooh. i'm excited.

i don't know why, but i don't feel comfortable blogging on tumblr. i get this feeling that too many people are reading it. and i don't want that for some reason. i have no way of knowing if anything i post here can be read by anyone. but according to my former english teacher, there is a desire to be published if a person blogs. so i must have some desire for this to be published, or in my opinion, taken down for future reference.
anyway, what i really want to right about is this new series i'm reading. i don't know what the series is called, but i'll refer to it as gallagher girls by ally carter. no, they are not john gallagher's girls (couldn't resist putting this in). the series is about girls who are spies-in-training. i liked the premise so i went ahead and read the first book, then the second book, then the third book, and now, i can't wait for the fourth book to come out. it comes as no surprise that i like it because i am a huge fan of the cody banks movies. that whole teenage spy thing is right up my alley. and it doesn't hurt that it features all sorts of crazy cool technology that i appreciate very much (and wish that they existed. maybe they do. i don't know. i'm not in the CIA.)
i like the fact that the whole being-a-teenager aspect of it doesn't take away from the spy aspect. like, there's a love aspect (i do not like using the word aspect. i really don't.) to the story and that makes it more interesting and doesn't take over the main subject (coughtwilightcough). the only bad thing i can say about it is that the action scenes aren't narrated very well. to the author, she can probably see the whole thing in her head but the narration leaves something to be desired. i'm not entirely sure about this because i do read very fast (to complement the high energy situation happening in the novel). maybe rereading will solve my problem. maybe not.

i can't really decide if zach is someone who can be trusted. but i do know that he and cammie would be awesome together and i hope they end up getting married. haha!

i'd recommend it for light reading to people around my age. good stuff.
next on my reading list? percy jackson book 3, the titan's curse. hellz yeah. speaking of titans, i saw clash of the titans with daryll and lara at trinoma last saturday. my sister asked me about the plot and when i had finished my summary, she asked me what the actual clash was about. i found myself stumped because i don't think i saw ANY titans in the movie. just olympians and argonauts. whut up wid dat? maybe i missed something because i was too distracted by nicholas hoult and kaya scoledario being in the movie? i don't know. if anyone reading this can enlighten me, please do so.

currently listening to: fall out boy
the most productive thing i did today was to go to the airport to see my eldest sister off to jakarta. it gets sadder every time. you'd expect it to be easier since it's the fourth time we've gone to the aiport to see her off. i guess we all just really want her here. at home. with us.
the other productive thing i did was to continue reading ayn rand's the fountainhead. it's very interesting but the intellectual talk that takes up to a whole page sometimes make me want to just scan the thing. howard roark is a cool guy. the only wrong thing about him is his first name. howard. i don't mean to offend anyone named howard. it's just such an old name. that i somehow managed to attach to a loser. it's weird. but there is nothing loser-ish about howard roark at all.
it must be time to get back to reality and start doing my homework. i've done 3 of them so that makes me feel better about myself. but there are 3 more that makes me feel like a total - there's no other word for it - loser. maybe my name should be howard.
okay. deep breaths. that's what tomorrow is for anyway. january 4th. cramming day.

reading books again

after going to the province yesterday, i made the mistake of picking up Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. it was a mistake because i was tired and sleepy. the problem was, i couldn't put the book down. i really didn't intend to stay up until 2AM just to finish it, but i did. so, here's two reasons why i couldn't put it down:
1) the suspense was killing me. when will clay's name come up? what did the 13th person do to deserve one of her opening lines? ahhh! questions that could only be answered if i read on, so i did. sigh. cost me a lot of grumbling from my mom for waking up so late.
2) i was scared. once i started, it was impossible not to finish it. like, i HAD to finish it so i could have some closure. the part with tyler's window seemed so real. also, the late hour gave me creeps.
if anyone's reading this, they should stop and read that book instead. it made suicide more real to me.
another book that had me wanting to forgo meals was the hunger games by suzanne collins. another book that was impossible to put down. again, the suspense! will katniss survive? will she be killed? you'd think i wouldn't be surprised anymore because i already knew the plot of the book. but still, it seemed hard to believe until i actually reached the last page. i don't think i ever read a book as fast as i read the hunger games. too exciting for a leisurely pace.
now, catching fire is waiting for me to read it. i won't. not tonight. i have to sleep. and i have to finish the inferno. but it's almost like it's calling my name! no! not yet!
so many good books, so little time.

i just want to post something before i delve into my tle report.
there's tons of catching up to do, a lot of events i haven't reported. but i'd really rather concentrate on today's events. that might seem weird since it's only noon, but this morning has been the most eventful one this week, worthy of a blogpost.
as my trips to the dentist have been a running discussion in this blog, i shall continue. i went to the dentist this morning. it seems new, given that my last visit was six months ago. nothing really exciting happened. he took a picture of my teeth and told me to come back after another six months. ahhh, the joys of retainer land.
afterward, i decided to go to the national bookstore, approximately a block away. when i arrived it was 9:50. they open at 10. i really didn't want to stand in front of the store under the heat of the sun. so i found myself in greenhills with nothing to do. wrong! it's a shopping complex for **ck's sake! so i walked over to the promenade, with the intention of taking my business to fully booked. lo and behold, it was closed too. albeit there wasn't a lock on the door like in nbs, the "closed" sign was held up. i trudged back to the bank where my mom was at and waited until she was finished. we had a snack and went over to v-mall to go to "a different bookstore". their collection was limited so we ended up at nbs (which was open by then). lusted after catching fire for a while before moving on to other books.* got 2 new books and a magazine. they're just for leisure reading so i have something to do for the remaining days of sembreak. i'll blog about the books if they're any good. the magazine is really just for inspiration. i saw "the mortal instruments" on display and it looked promising. hmmm, next time (when i have more money saved up/when my parents feel like giving me money).
on the way home, i saw a vespa dealership. it's really cool that they sell them in the philippines now. i was introduced to the vespa by the lizzie mcguire movie and gossip girl later on (oh, zoey 101 too, although it was called...JET X!). that must mean there's a demand for italian scooters here. isn't it weird that as more filipinos get poorer everyday, there are some who get so much richer? high-end brands and boutiques are popping up everywhere. what's the deal with that?
on a shallower note, i really wouldn't mind having a vespa. it looks way cool.
well, the time has come for me to bury my nose in a book so i won't lament the fact that i have not seen a single movie since my sembreak started. and there are so many good ones out too! argh.
*i read the hunger games. awesome book. highly recommended.

less than three days left before class officially starts. i considered putting this on my facebook status: "guys! say you have the A(H1N1) so classes will be suspended for 10 days!". but i know that it's a terrible and distasteful joke, so never mind. facebook has been my favorite time-waster these days, now that my review classes are over.
sam and co. moved here in QC so i hitched a ride with them on the last day of the review classes. we had greenwich food delivered which arrived in 20 mins. probably because the store was across the street. looking back, we definitely looked like lazy fat-asses. the day before that, i commuted with christelle back to her house. it was her first time to go on a train so she had a lot of fun. it was really amusing for me, a seasoned train traveler, to see a total novice go about it. we got to her house safe and sound and i ate lunch there.
at the moment, i'm just keeping my room tidy and making sure all of the things i need for school are in order. i'm approaching my last year of high school so i want to make sure everything goes smoothly. i'm also reading The Inferno, just to get a head start on things. i'm liking it so far. the book and the concept of hell.
a'ight. report over.
p.s. missed the JB live chat this morning. the weather just made me want to stay in bed all day.

room makeover

- had a nice family lunch to celebrate dad's birthday yesterday. dad cooked for us. he was very proud of the rib-eye and the lamb. for once, i actually ate the salad. the dressing was too good to resist. there was tons of dessert. ice cream, cake, brownies, chocolate, etc. remember, my dad's diabetic.
- saw max payne after lunch. we watched it because there was no other choice. it wasn't so bad. my dad slept through half of it. i had to keep looking over at him to see if he was still awake. according to the movie reviews i read in today's paper, max payne is from a video game. the plot wasn't anything to rave about. the effects were awesome though. i liked the slow-mo scenes. you really saw how the gun works. the killing of lupino, the supposed "devil" was a bit anti-climactic. poor guy didn't even have any lines. in the end, it was the guy max payne trusted that ended up being his wife's killer. BB (?), the "suit". natasha's sister, i forgot her name, looked so familiar (edit: Mona Sax!). i kept thinking all throughout the movie where i saw her first. it was mila kunis, from "that 70's show". that's good to know. the movie even teaches the viewers about Norse mythology. the ending smelled like it can have a sequel if the movie does well. :) omg. i was searching wikipedia for a movie poster and i found out that nelly furtado was in the movie, playing alex's wife. that is so crazy! she looked like she gained weight (sorry, that sounds mean). i didn't recognize her even though her face was focused the whole time she was talking. ooh, weird. :)
- in the previous post, i was telling you about how i borrowed "The Catcher in the Rye" from the mini-library. i finally finished it. i got some good lines out of it too. it was a really interesting read. the book is fairly long for something that happens in two to three days. Holden Caulfield is really cool. :) i would love to see it made into a movie but according to Wikipedia, J.D. Salinger won't authorize it.
- my room is currently undergoing major renovation which started this morning. it sucks cause i just changed my bed sheets yesterday morning. what a waste.

we got most of the exam results this week. mine aren't bad. the English result was disappointing. i finally did the speaking task three for speech. i got a really bad question this time. it was: do you think we can learn lessons from nature? after greeting everyone and reading the question, i just concentrated on filling my time. the question is so bogus. i repeated the phrase 'it's a matter of interpretation' so many times. i got an ok grade but i wish i got a better question.
since our english teacherforced encouraged us to make full use of the mini-library, we had to take a book each and read it for the rest of the period. i thought it was gonna be boring because our library didn't have many interesting titles. i went with catcher in the rye by j.d. salinger, owned by my classmate, erika. i always thought that the catcher in the rye used old english. apparently not. it caught my attention so i borrowed it for the weekend. i only wish i would have time to read it. this weekend proves to be jampacked with activities.
in other news, folie a deux's release date will be moved to december 16. too bad.

yeah. i watched more movies.
- another cinderella story - the step mother is less evil and the evil stepsisters are not so diabolical. cinderella remains the same minus the rats. i didn't know selena gomez could dance well. not a bad soundtrack. i like 'new classic' and 'tell me somthing i don't know' :)
- definitely, maybe - feels like i haven't watched a rom-com in ages. it stars abigail breslin (again). gawd, i'm seeing loads of her movies. i must be a fan or something. the story is kind of like 'how i met your mother'. fun, feel-good movie.
- tropic thunder - saw it with my sisters at gateway. slapstick comedy. tom cruise did a great job. really funny at times. go watch it while it's still in theaters. be sure to get there early. you wouldn't wanna miss the trailers. :D
i wanna watch sisterhood of the traveling pants 2. missed it for some reason.
oh, yeah. i just read uglies by scott westerfeld last night. bought it at the fully booked branch in gateway. haha. promotion much? it was probably the first sci-fi novel i gotsuckered into buying. ate ida bought a pair of shoes and ate heny bought a top. i wasn't about to go home empty handed. ugh. it's a stupid mentality, i know. but it sucks not getting a goody from the outside world. :)
the book isn't so bad. the first part was really interesting. by part two, i really thought that an 'ugly' was ugly in our society's standards. that's why i thought david was hella ugly. but now that i think about it, he might be alright. the whole time i read, i just wanted tally to be a 'pretty'. even after she fell for david.

i practically did nothing today. we have computer for two periods, geometry, then religion. then the rest was for the interaction. computer became stressful again. i came back to my old unit too soon. the effin' thing is still broken so a day's work is completely wasted. i'll have to redo it on the trusty extra units in the last row. too bad there's a group work that needs to be done.
geometry was about correspondence and congruence. easy enough. seriously. during religion, we had our long quiz. it wasn't too hard. i saw the enumerations coming. i'm so glad i forced myself to study last night. i literally had it beside my pillow, waiting for me to read it. i ignored it and read Can You Keep A Secret by Sophie Kinsella. finally, the guilt ate me up and i read my blue book. thank heavens for in-your-face reminders.
had our interaction today. i thought the whole thing consisted of more class presentations than actual interaction. it's ok. i still had fun. my partner was nice enough. he wasn't as talkative as my partner last year but i still consider myself very lucky with him. mikka's partner hardly talked to her because he "wasn't feeling well". we barely used the shutter shades. we didn't really need it. it was all just part of keeping with the theme. the snacks at the end of the interaction wasn't good, to say the least. it was mcdo but it was what it was. stale cook and a nasty burger. i don't mind. we got our money's worth :D their token to us were these bracelets. lucky mara got candies apart from the bracelet. her box was filled with all kinds of candies. :) our token to them were mini flashlights. not bad at all.
i've got the coastal clean-up tomorrow which kicks off at 5:30 AM. sigh. the things they make us do.
hey! i made a tumbleblog today. i can't believe how quick it was. the temptation to try it out was too great. take a look: Dump Site. excuse the picture of zac efron. i just haven't seem him in a while :)
so instead of posting useless posts in here, i'm gonna do that over there. haha. i'm really making great use of my time here, eh?

the bell jar

i just finished reading the bell jar by sylvia plath. it's about a descent of the protagonist to madness. it's a bit disturbing and hardly a light read. as i was reading, i didn't feel/notice the change of events. it felt like i was stuck in one moment, like the narrator. like i was also inside a bell jar while i was reading.
i find that very weird since i don't usually get so attached to a character. does that mean the bell jar is an excellent book? after i read the whole book (i was determined to finish it last night) i felt bothered, so to help me sleep, i listened to my shuffle. disturbia by rihanna came on. perfect timing. i felt even more disturbed because of the lyrics and the beat. and then outta my head by ashlee simpson followed. really? that's so odd.
the bell jar ended on ahappy positive note, but i couldn't shake the feeling of foreboding. i wish ms. calderon didn't approve the book. it's psychological and a bit haunting. too complex for me. it's an excellent book to analyze and the story is quite simple when you get down to it. the themes are just a bit heavier than what i was expecting. after all, it was recommended by teen reads. com. the writing draws you in.
i still can't decide if it's good or not. sigh. but it does have the literary value ms. calderon was talking about. it had symbolism, heavy themes, motifs, and whatever else a book report calls for.
one requirement down, two more to go:

i just downloaded 2 books off the internet. it happened in less than 5 minutes. i can read two books without paying for anything. damn. i feel so guilty.
its nice because you get to read it but nothing beats actually holding the book in your hands and turning the pages. it doesn't beat the satisfaction of covering the book with plastic in an effort to make it last longer

fuck off, bitch! that is exactly what i want to say to a certain someone. make that, fuck off, bitches! i remembered another person who was a total bitch earlier today. i am pertaining to a certain gloria and a certain bettina. bitches in my life. little specks of insignificant dirt. let's not waste time on them.
so, what has been happening to me ever since i last posted? exactly one week ago. well, i auditioned for the debate team on the 20th. we had to say if we were pro or against and then they give us the topic. the topic they gave me was gay marriage. and i chose against. i did my best but ifelt sure my argument wasn't strong enough. i didn't even give a clear answer on the POI raised by the Debate Team coach, claire. so i was squirming in my bed for 2 nights thinking about the results of my audition. today, at dismissal, i saw the results. and yes, i did get in. HOORAY! i don't feel as excited as i probably could be because lorraine has just totally ruined it for me. and the fact that i was kinda sorta expecting it, didn't heighten my enthusiasm. so, yes, i am part of STCQC's debate team! yay!
this week, i was also obssessing over our reporting, daryll's and i. i hate daryll for not making an effort to contribute anything. she is clearly a person that does not strive for excellence. so it turns out, i get the late nights, the trouble of summarizing and she gets the ready made script and powerpoint, and the photocopying duties. i am aware of the fact that life is not fair. but i'm not going to sacrifice my grade for the sake of teaching her a lesson. sorry, jesus, me and you have different ways of making people learn the lessons in life. i console myself wit the fact that they will probably have a hard life in the workforce. sigh. i am, yet again, bitter. i could ask her to do more but i don't want to risk anything. daryll is a great friend. a horrible partner in projects.
last week, sam lent me 2 books. entitled 'angus, thongs, and full-frontal snogging' and 'on the bright side, i am now the girlfriend of a sex god'. the writing is funny but the story moves so slow. i know that it is a diary type kind of book but i read the princess diaries' and i don't find it boring at all. probably because she just writes the important things. or maybe not even important but essential to the plot. in the books by louise rennison, it includes things that are really of no importance at all. but it is funny. that much is true. well, those were the highlights of my week. take care now.

last week, sam lent me 2 books. entitled 'angus, thongs, and full-frontal snogging' and 'on the bright side, i am now the girlfriend of a sex god'. the writing is funny but the story moves so slow. i know that it is a diary type kind of book but i read the princess diaries' and i don't find it boring at all. probably because she just writes the important things. or maybe not even important but essential to the plot. in the books by louise rennison, it includes things that are really of no importance at all. but it is funny. that much is true. well, those were the highlights of my week. take care now.
